OUR FOUNDER: HARRY SAROYAN

Harry’s love, devotion and contributions to the Middle Eastern arts made him one of the most influential men in the Belly Dance world. Recipient of numerous awards, including “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Double Crown Productions, “MECDA Hall of Fame,” and an Honored Professional in the “National Register’s Who’s Who,” and his most recent award from “The Chronicles Magazine,” Lifetime of Dedication, Achievement, and Contribution to the Art of the Middle Eastern Dance and Music.

A businessman for over 40 years, Harry was the designer and manufacturer of the largest selection of exquisitely designed finger cymbals, decorative coins and scimitars. A master craftsman and a recording artist, he brought the dancers the ultimate in sound, design and selection with his line of finger cymbals and memorable recordings. He held degrees in business administration, tool design engineering and metallurgy. A consummate of Middle Eastern fine arts and music, Harry produced and directed major Middle Eastern show productions from early ’70s to mid ’80s. He served as a senior judge for dance competitions and occasionally a contributing writer for dance publications.

His line of Finger Cymbals are internationally known as well as his two recordings, “An Oriental Bouquet” and “Cairo.”

A message from Harry Saroyan:
Saroyan Mastercrafts under new Ownership

Artist, musician, metallurgist, visionary. For the past 45 years, Harry Saroyan has been the premier manufacturer of zils and music for the belly dance world. His metal craftsmanship is second to none and he continues to be a much sought after judge and mentor to dancers worldwide. Harry has decided that it is time to pass the torch onto the next generation.

A message from Harry: “I am very pleased to introduce to you Vincent & Virginia Fesunoff, who will be the new owners of Saroyan Mastercrafts. They are very pleasant, knowledgeable and conscientious couple, husband and wife, and I am sure they will maintain the quality and craftsmanship that you have come to expect from us throughout the years.”

As the daughter of a metallurgist and a musician/folk dancer, it seems only natural that Virginia Fesunoff would be a perfect fit to continue Harry’s vision of providing quality instruments to dancers and musicians worldwide. Educated in art, dance and music, Virginia first heard Harry’s music in a local belly dance class. Upon discovering that a company she and Vincent were considering purchasing belonged to the legendary Harry Saroyan, the deal was sealed in her mind. It was a match made in heaven. Virginia’s career expertise in marketing and customer service includes seven years at a historic museum and hotel as well as serving on the board of directors of a regional ballet company and a literary society. She is looking forward to continuing Harry, and his wife Betty’s, commitment to excellent customer service.

Vincent Fesunoff specializes in manufacturing and process quality and holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the American Society for Quality. His 30-year career includes roles in operations management, continuous improvement, and capital investment. He brings a unique blend of technical skills and a passion to protect Harry’s legacy. Vincent is committed to overseeing the manufacturing of Saroyan Zils “using the original materials, on Harry’s machines, done Harry’s way, with Harry’s blessing.”

Harry Saroyan continued on with Saroyan Mastercrafts as Chief Designer and Quality Advisor until his passing. Being freed from the daily rigors of production enabled Harry to create and concentrate on new designs that were eagerly awaited.
